Air Purifiers
Air purifiers that filter microplastics and other airborne pollutants from indoor air. Inhalation is an underrated route of exposure. Most plastic-reduced models are expensive; if a plastic-bodied unit fits your budget, having one is still better than not.

Airpura
The vast majority of items are plastic free, but a few might contain plastic
Quebec-based maker of cylindrical air purifiers in steel cabinets, manufactured in Laval. Each unit pairs HEPA media with a heavy carbon bed (around 18 to 26 lbs depending on model) tuned for a specific pollutant: VOCs, smoke, mold, formaldehyde, pet dander, or general allergens. Cabinet and grille are steel; only the castors, knob, and small fittings are plastic. Most sales go through a network of around 100 dealers, including in the US, Canada, Korea, and China; the brand website handles US orders directly, with Canadian customers ordering by phone.

Austin Air Systems
The vast majority of items are plastic free, but a few might contain plastic
American maker of medical-grade air purifiers in solid steel cabinets with 360° perforated steel intake and a powder-coat finish. The drum filter combines HEPA media with around 15 lbs of activated carbon and zeolite, rated for a 5-year service life. The casing has no plastic, though the wheels, knob, and small fittings do. Handcrafted in Buffalo, New York; ships direct within the US, with Canada by phone quote and other markets through dealers.

Jaspr
The vast majority of items are plastic free, but a few might contain plastic
Tower-format air purifier in a cold-rolled steel cabinet with a 360° perforated steel intake. The 4 lb filter pairs HEPA-grade media with about a pound of activated carbon, rated for around 6 months of use. The body is metal rather than the plastic shell most home purifiers use, though a few small fittings are plastic. Free shipping to the US and Canada; warranty covers North America only.

E.L. Foust Co.
The vast majority of items are plastic free, but a few might contain plastic
Wisconsin company making all-metal air purifiers since 1974, founded after E.L. Foust built an early version of the 160R2 for his wife's chemical sensitivities. Steel cabinets pair with heavy activated carbon (7 lbs in the room model, more in the 400 series) and optional HEPA media. The company avoids plastics and glues in the cabinet to keep units from off-gassing; the motor housing, switch, and cord are the only plastic on most units. Built in Mineral Point, Wisconsin; ships direct to US and Canada, international orders by phone.

Smart Air
This brand offers many plastic-free items but also contains items with plastic
Beijing-based social enterprise and B Corp making affordable HEPA air purifiers. The Blast Mk II and Blast Mini Mk II have steel cabinets and qualify; the Sqair, their entry model, has an ABS plastic body (with sustainably sourced beech-wood legs) and doesn't. Smart Air also sells the original DIY kit it was founded on: a HEPA filter strapped to a fan, with cardboard-framed replacement filters that recycle without disassembly. Ships worldwide from the global store in China, with regional sites for the US, UK, EU, and India.

IQAir
Most items offered by this brand contain or are plastic-based. Only the specific items mentioned should be considered plastic-free alternatives.
Swiss air filtration company best known for its plastic-bodied HealthPro and Atem series. The Atem Earth, launched in 2025, is the only model that qualifies. Its cylindrical tower uses real beech wood from sustainably managed European forests, finished without paint or varnish; the carry strap is a leather alternative and the filter is frameless, dropping the plastic frame conventional cartridges use. IQAir says it contains roughly five times less plastic than a conventional purifier; the motor housing, sensor, and small fittings are still plastic. The rest of the IQAir lineup is conventional plastic and doesn't qualify. Made in Switzerland and ships to 100+ countries via regional warehouses in California, Germany, and Hong Kong.
