Contribution Guidelines
Not all categories require complete plastic-free status. Contributions must meet baseline standards depending on category type:
Functionally Dependent Categories
- Categories like Air Purifiers and Water Filtration Systems are included based on high-impact health relevance, even if they contain plastic components.
- Inclusion is based on reduced plastic use, long lifespan, and functional necessity where plastic-free alternatives do not exist.
- These are evaluated by overall benefit, not material purity.
Plastic-Intensive Product Categories
- Categories like Tech (e.g., laptops, routers) are generally excluded, unless there is a clear material reduction, plastic-free contact surfaces, or exceptional design transparency.
- Tech is not core to the directory's mission and will only be listed in rare, justified cases.
Standard Product Categories
- For most categories (clothing, kitchen, personal care), the brand must offer at least some fully plastic-free products, or come very close (e.g., socks, shoes with minimal plastic).
Material Definitions
- Silicone, bioplastics, and recycled plastic are not treated as plastic-free.
- Plastic-free packaging is preferred, but not required.
Each contribution is reviewed manually.
